Central Truth

Jesus is who He says He is, The Truth and the Way.                                                                                                                                                                                         

Reflections

I always felt sorry for Peter when Jesus addressed him by saying, "Get behind me Satan." I thought the words used by Jesus must have crushed the heart of Peter.

The advantage to getting older is that you learn to look back in your own life and learn from it. I have learned a lot from my son Guy, He was born with Down's Syndrome and some would say he was given less by God. I know he was given "more." God has given him faith to trust God with no questions asked. I ask all the questions and find myself like Peter using "my will be done." Guy has shown me by faith I will see God, not by good works. 

Peter questioned God and did not trust Him. We should remember that God's will be done not ours. The key word is Jesus is the Messiah and we have to learn to trust in Him. Peter learned to trust God by waiting on the Lord and listening for His direction. Peter said to Jesus, "You are the Messiah" and the church will be built on this Truth.

Discussion Questions

1. Why do we question what the Lord tells us to do?      

2. Do you look for signs in your life to see how God is working in you to show Truth to others?  

3. Ask yourself, "Do I have a friend to share what God is doing in my life?" 

4. Do I live my life so that in the end I will hear "well done my good and faithful servant?"

    John, your statement that "Guy has been given more" really resonated with me. What a profound insight. God has uniquely gifted each of us and we don't know the full extent of those gifts.

    God is still in the business of revealing Himself to His children. God continues to build His church as the gates of hell cannot prevail against it. Thank God for Jesus -"the way, the truth and the life".(John 14:6).
