HAVE A LITTLE FAITH

Key Verse
"You don't have enough faith," Jesus told them. "I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible." (Matthew 17:20, NLT)

Central Truth

Jesus wants everyone to have faith.

Reflections

There have been times in my life when I just wanted to give up. Times when my confidence level was shallow and I thought I could not possibly overcome difficulties.  Times when I just felt like if I had to do one more thing, answer another question, or come up with one more dollar I just might lose it.

A few years ago I wanted to fulfill my dream of going to graduate school. I set my sights high, completed the application, mailed it, and waited. A few weeks later I received my letter of acceptance. I thought, "Oh boy how am I going to do this." Work a full time job, commute to Washington D.C. for class, complete an internship, maintain a household, be a mother, and take care of my mother? Well the thought was just too much. I began to pray and God revealed with each prayer that I just needed to keep moving forward and have a little faith. God promised He would remove the obstacles.

Throughout the process many obstacles crept in. I found out that I was going to be without a job, the contract had ended. I was devastated, but God reminded me to have a little faith and let Him remove the obstacles.

You see God needs us to believe in His power and we demonstrate that by having faith. You see God removed every obstacle, He allowed me to have more time for my family, school and the internship. He allowed me to obtain the money for the semester before the job ended; He kept the car running so I could finish school. God gave me the strength to keep moving forward over every mountain, through every valley to reach a goal He had for me.

Well, I graduated with a Master Degree and I have kept my faith even in difficult times. Things may seem impossible right now, but have a little faith and God will keep His promises.

Discussion Questions

1. Why do we sometimes find it difficult to have faith?

2. Is there something you have always wanted to do but were afraid to try? What's holding you back?

3. Do you ever wonder what would happen if you would allow God to use you?

Thanks for this word today! I relate to that struggle of faith in my own life as I work toward my own educational path. This faith message was just what I needed for this week...
