Reflections
In this parable the virgins were asleep, together and at the appointed time they all heard the call. But only five had enough oil. They all knew they needed oil but only five were OBEDIENT. The virgins with oil were constantly focused on the reason for living, i.e., being ready to be with the Bridegroom. Are you obediently prepared to be in the presence of the Lord (the Rapture, Second Coming or at Death)? The question is, are you ready to be in the Master's presence at this very moment? If yes, go to the next two parables (talents and sheep/goats). If no, 1: stop here and tell Jesus you acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of salvation; 2: with the help of the Holy Spirit you will turn from your sinful conduct. 3: You believe that He died for your sins and rose from the dead and 4: you receive Jesus into your heart as Lord and Savior. If you prayed these statements with all your heart, you are saved! Now let's move to the parable of the talents.
The talents represent the gifts given you by God to do His will. It's not that the person tried and failed but that he did not even try. What abilities do you have? Can you smile, laugh, encourage, read, pray, and/or give (self and/or resources)? If so, you have the talents to be a world-class investor in the Kingdom of God. Stop thinking about doing it, just do it. It's easy. Build your Heavenly mansion but more importantly please the Lord with your heartfelt obedience.
Regarding the last parable of sheep vs. goats understand that the Lord could have used any example. The "sheep" exhibit merciful compassion to the least of the Lord's by giving food, water, clothing, shelter, etc. as needed. As the obedient servant you need to shape your attitudes, motives and desires into prescription glasses that will let you see through the loving eyes of Jesus. After you wipe away the tears of compassion, get up and get to work. No excuses.
Discussion Questions
1. Are you ready to be in the presence of the Lord? If your answer is yes, state the reasons you believe you are ready, if no, what do you have to do to please our Lord?2. What abilities can you use to invest in the Kingdom? How can you become Jesus to others? Give examples.

Thanks Dominick, for your encouragement to make sure I'm ready and working for the Lord from a prepared and pure heart. I am guarding my heart against bitterness today, as I face the judgements of others on my performance and focus my expectation for approval on the Lord Jesus. He is the only one that can truely judge me and he chooses to have compassion. Pray that the Lord will give me the grace to have the Lord's compassion on those who judge me today. Thanks again for your words of encouragement. Dorothy Beebe
