TRUST GOD FOR NEW THINGS IN OUR LIFE THROUGH JESUS
- Key Verse
- Now it was the governor’s custom each year during the Passover celebration to release one prisoner—anyone the people requested. One of the prisoners at that time was Barabbas, a revolutionary who had committed murder in an uprising. The crowd went to Pilate and asked him to release a prisoner as usual. (Mark 15:6-8)

Central Truth
God sent His son Jesus to die for our sins and used a custom to allow it to come to pass. The crowd asked Pilate to do for them what he usually did but there was nothing usual about what God did through Jesus for us all that day.
Reflections
We are creatures of habit and we find a certain level of comfort in establishing daily routines. We drive the same way to work, prepare or buy the same meals, watch the same TV shows, shop at the same stores, and on and on. We grow accustomed to doing what we usually do.
Sometimes we venture out of our routine to find something new. Recently I got a TomTom and decided to test it out. Instead of driving my usual way home from work, I decided to take a side street that I had driven past for years but never bothered to find out where it lead. I put my home address into the GPS system and turned up this mysterious road. I felt excited and scared at the same time. I knew I would see new sites but couldn't believe I was trusting directions from this little talking box. The route was very scenic and I found businesses that I never knew were so close to my home. It was a pretty fun experience.
It can be easy to make a change in our every day physical routines: eat at a restaurant you've never been to, watch a TV show you've never seen, or drive down a road you've never driven to see where it leads. Learning a new way of doing anything can be awkward and a little challenging but after a while it becomes familiar, even comfortable. But how can new things happen in our spiritual life?
New things happen when we trust in Jesus! "We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life."(Romans 6:4 NIV) "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland."(Isaiah 43:18-19 NIV)
Jesus can bring new things into your life today. Be ready to perceive and receive!
