THE THINGS THAT BELONG TO GOD

Key Verse

“Show me a Roman coin. Whose picture and title are stamped on it?” “Caesar’s,” they replied. “Well then,” He said, “give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and give to God what belongs to God.” (Luke 20:24-25 NLT)

What things do we possess that belong to God?

Reflections

Even though I have been a Christian for over 25 years it still amazes me how little I know about God.  Everyday I learn something new or something old seems new.  I know what it takes to become a Christian but would fail any test on how to sustain my Christianity.  Oh, you might say, "Why? Don't you know the ten commandments or don't you know what Corinthians says about Christian living?"  Well, the answer would be "Yes," however, there is still that mark of total commitment that I am missing.  I was reading my Bible one day and stumbled upon a verse that I had never seen before nor understood. That scripture is found in the book of Micah 6:8 (NLT).  "He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." I couldn't stop reading this passage. All my Christian years have been spent either trying to please God or trying to please my flesh and let me tell you it has been a battle. But here it is right in the bible, exactly what God wants from me!  I can't tell you how many times I have read this scripture. It is God telling each of us what He wants.  We as Christians always pray "Oh Lord what will you have me to do? Show me a sign." And, guess what. God made it simple, concise and clear: just do what is right, be fair, honest, and obey God. That's it!  It seems so simple but for me it is so challenging to do it everyday.

If you are in the same place that I am in trying to be the perfect Christian, just stop and do what God says in Micah 6:8. You will save yourself a lot of time by just rendering to God what belongs to him.

2. Do you struggle with knowing God's will for your life?

3. What are the steps you are going to take to measure up to Micah 6:8?
