AND YOU WILL HAVE ABUNDANT JOY
- Key Verse
At that time you won’t need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, and He will grant your request because you use my name. You haven’t done this before. Ask, using my name, and you will receive, and you will have abundant joy. (John 16:23-24, NLT)

Central Truth
You and I have the promise from Jesus that we can ask the Father directly.
Reflections
I have been trying to understand this passage and find the central truth. I have been trying to find the key word that would sink the meaning of this passage into my heart and finally would bring that abundant joy that I want and desire. What could bring that abundant joy that Jesus is talking about? How can I experience that abundant joy? I have been a Christian for almost 20 years and I have experienced that abundant joy a few times. I have been trying to not only experience it, but to live it everyday of my life it. Something must be wrong in my life. I have believed that only when I became a super Christian, or when I became more spiritual, or when I read more of the Bible, or when I went to church more often, or I if I do this or that, then I will live that abundant joy. I do know that there is something more joyful, and that there is more about the Christian life than I am living. Even my intuition tells me that this cannot be all, that there is more in life, much more, that I am missing, and deep inside me, my heart can feel it.
The truth is that, as Jesus said, we can ask the Father directly and He will grant our request because we use His name. We can ask using His name and we will receive, and then we will have abundant joy. In John 16:26-27 (NLT) the Bible says, “Then you will ask in my name. I’m not saying I will ask the Father on your behalf, for the Father Himself loves you dearly because you love me and believe that I came from God.”
Yes, the Father Himself loves us dearly. He Himself loves us dearly.
