Central Truth

The light dispels the darkness in this world and points the way to the Savior. By our lives and our works, we show the glory of God to the lost people in our world.

Reflections

Every day we are placed in situations where we are observed. We have a great responsibility to be the hands of Jesus and the voice of Jesus in this world. We need our actions and words to point the way to salvation and to glorify God.

I have been a part of a small Bible study group and we have been studying that the number one thing that attracts people to Christianity is the life and testimony of Christians. Paradoxically, the number one thing that turns people away from Christianity is the life and actions of Christians. We need to be aware through God's Holy Spirit that our words and actions have a great influence on those around us. If we are able to demonstrate God's love, joy, and peace through difficult circumstances, it will be a great testimony to others. They will begin to ask questions and seek what we have. We are God's lights in a dark, sinful world. We need to seek God's guidance and grow spiritually by reading God's Word and by praying so that we glorify God every day with our words and actions. We need to band together and do "good deeds" so others can see a unified community and be drawn to the Savior. With God's help and guidance, together we can make a great difference in our community, city, state and country.

This passage says we shouldn't hide our light but should put it on a stand so everyone can see it. Our relationship with God isn't a "private behind closed doors" thing. We are the vessels through which God's love should flow. We need to share our faith and comfort those in need. Ours is an active faith. James 2 says faith without works is dead. James 2 also says if we see someone hungry and in need of food we shouldn't turn them away with a prayer of blessing. We should give them food and clothing. Trinity's website lists many ways we can serve in our community. Perhaps we can minister with a simple smile or offer to pray for someone.

2. What is God calling me to do?
