YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD IS SIMILAR TO A HIDDEN MOUNTAIN

Key Verse

'When you pray, don't be like the hypocrites who love to pray publicly on street corners and in the synagogues where everyone can see them. I tell you the truth, that is all the reward they will ever get. But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.' (Matthew 6:5-6, NLT)

Central Truth

Your hidden spiritual life should have greater prominence in your devotion to God than the publically displayed portion of your spiritual life.

Reflections

I've never seen an iceberg in its entirety. Few of us probably have. I am told, however, that most of the iceberg lies hidden under water; we can see only a small fraction of the ice. This mountain of ice is only partially visible.

Your spiritual life is similar. The majority of your spiritual life is a relationship between you and God. That's it. No one else involved. It is not easily seen or observed by others. Even though it is hidden to others you know it is there. God knows it is there too.

The quality of that hidden part of your life is crucial to the quality of the visible part. The top of the mountain rests upon the larger bottom portion. Your public demonstrations of faith, faithfulness, and love will rest upon the faith, faithfulness, and love of your hidden private life with God.

Build that inner life with God. Make it a strong foundation. Pay more attention to the base of your mountain than the peak. Then you will find your reward from God.
