Central Truth
At times God interferes with our lives even though we want to be left alone.
Reflections
"Leave me alone! I hate you, get away! Don't come near me!"Have you noticed that often we don't mean these words when we say them? We are frustrated with our present situation, don't see a way to escape, and aren't willing to seek help. Change is troublesome and frightening. Even though we are troubled and even tortured in our present condition, we don't welcome a helping hand or someone with the expertise to change our lives. We often lash out at the person seeking to help us.
At times God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are seen as unwelcome visitors. Indeed, their very presence shines a bright light on the spiritual filth and dirt we live in. We are embarrassed and upset at the intruders. 'And when He [the Holy Spirit] has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.' (John 16:8, NKJV) Being convicted of sin is painful.
Fortunately this confrontation with God can bring about change. 'Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation.' (2 Corinthians 5:17-19, NKJV)
Jesus 'the meddler' came not to torture you or me, but rather to offer a change of life. If you prefer, He will just go away. If, however, you accept His offer, you will make a new friend and your life will be transformed.
