Reflections

It should not come as surprise that there is so much reference to food and dining in the scriptures. Consider in your own life all the major events that are accompanied by food. It seems that in the church, food is the currency of fellowship. The breaking of bread together is so significant that our Lord shares a Passover meal for His last supper with His disciples, and it is at this time that He institutes the communion. It seems that, even in the secular world, peace and forgiveness are intimated when people dine together. Just as the sharing of communion indicates we are at peace with our Lord and in fellowship with Him, so likewise we demonstrate our fellowship with others during the meal. In many cultures around the world it would be prohibited to dine with an enemy. Life for the Christian is, and should be, a "feast" in the here and now with our Lord. It is no mistake that our eternity spent with Christ and His church is referred to as the marriage supper of the Lamb. Don't be selfish about this supper but make sure that you to extend an invitation to all who you meet; to feast with the King both now and in the hereafter.
